Pool Skimming Made Easy with the Right Method

Skimming your pool is one of those jobs that needs to be done regularly to keep your pool looking and functioning its best. But it’s not always easy — if you don’t have the right technique, you can end up spending hours trying to get all the debris out of your pool. If you're looking for tips on how to properly skim your pool, here are a few methods that can make the task much easier.

Method 1: The Scoop-and-Dump Method

The scoop-and-dump method is great for small debris like leaves and twigs. Start by grabbing a skimmer net or a leaf scoop and use it to pick up the debris from the surface of your pool. Once you've collected all the debris into one spot, use an appropriate container (like a bucket) to scoop it up and dispose of it. Repeat this process until your pool has been completely cleared of any floating debris.

Method 2: The Vacuum Method

For larger pieces of debris, such as acorns or rocks, using a vacuum might be more efficient than manually picking them up. Start by attaching the vacuum head to a telescopic pole that’s long enough for you to reach all parts of your pool without having to get in the water. Then lower the vacuum head into the water and turn on the pump. As soon as it starts working its magic, move it around in circles so that it can pick up any large pieces of debris from all corners of your pool. Once it has collected everything, turn off the pump and remove any remaining debris with a skimmer net before emptying out the vacuum bag or bucket.

Method 3: The Automatic Pool Cleaner Method

If you want an even easier way to clean your pool then investing in an automatic cleaner might be worth considering. Automatic cleaners come in two different types — suction-side cleaners which attach directly to your existing filtration system and pressure-side cleaners which are powered by their own pumps and motors. Both types will do an excellent job at cleaning most pools but suction-side cleaners are usually cheaper so they may be a better option if budget is an issue for you.
